America discovers FIAT

In 1934 a car appeared on European roads, that left stodgy styling in the dust: Fiat Ballina Spider. That spirit is carried forward today in the classic Fiat Spider 2000: five speed or optional automatic transmission, excellent mileage, the Fiat Spider 2000. It may be the most beautiful car on the road. Fiat, motor cars in the great European tradition.

Fiat, motor cars in the great European
tradition

This text can be listened to and can be seen in a rather unique 'Road Report' promotional movie by which Fiat definitely expanded its sales offensive in the Seventies in order to make America more Fiat-minded.
The films represented here below played a significant role in that strategy.

To be able to play these very special Fiat 124 Spider promotional movies from the Seventies, you will need another player than Windows Media Player because this program is not able to play the movie files recorded in this different video fornat.
A program that is able to show these movies can be downloaded here.

When the video program is installed and has been adjusted according to the detailed description, click

    Harry The Spider Man

Click on this photo and read more about the specific 124 Spider knowledge and experience of Harry Minekus

Harry Minekus belongs to a small select group of genuine 124 Spiders experts in the Netherlands, inwhich group also connoisseurs like Gerrit van de Mars, Bas Gielen, Robert Moeijes and Hans Zoetbrood are participating.
Fellows, who travelled with their Spider every corner of Europe and are able - so to speak - to strip down a 124 Spider with their eyes closed and rebuild the car in reversed order in the same way.

I could imagine that in the long run, the car loses its charm and power of attraction. Don't you ever get tired of it, would be my next, most obvious question? In the contrary !  Although the 124 Spider does not have any hidden secret for these men, their enthusiasm never diminishes and their fascination is invariable!   What on earth has come over these fellows, I wonder sometimes desperately.

A few weeks ago one of the most well-known 124 Spider experts in the USA sent me an e-mail message, stating that he was emotionally moved by a magazine article that he came across again at our website after more than 35 years. It was one of the very first publications in the USA about the Fiat 124 Spider, just put at the American market those days. As a young boy he had read that specific article and also because of this, he got mesmerized completely by the Spider.
In his e-mail he wrote: 'I was fascinated to see this article that impressed me so much on your website. It took me more than half an hour and I had to reread the article again and again. It certainly reminded me why I love the 124 !'

In this article from the California based magazine 'Car and Driver' published in August 1968 the Fiat 124 Spider is lyrically specified as:
    A lady.
A lovely, sensual, responsive Italian lady. There is no other way of thinking about Pininfarina's Fiat 124 Spider. It's time you knew it.

Like women to dream about, the really good Italian cars always had a mysterious irrestibility and an eagerness to please. Somehow, they seem to exist solely for the pleasure of their drivers. Where there are moments of tight-jawed hardship with the British cars, all is sweet willingness with Italy's 124 Spider.

We see the Fiat 124 Spider as a milestone :  the beginning of the end of the hardship sports car. It's the only machine in its class in which we'd enjoy taking a long trip.
Without a shadow of a doubt it is this fascination, that fellows like Harry Minekus are committing themselves to the very special 124 Spider. Not without obligations anymore as an out of control hobby, but fully professional in a perfectly equipped garage for "his" Fiat 124 Spider, under his direct concern and supervision.

    Photo impression Spring meeting Holten
    June 6, 2004

A little Dutch girl sitting on the terrace of Hotel " 't Losse Hoes" in Holten ( meeting place of the Spring Drive on June 6 last ) was obsessed by the friendly gentleman who also was wearing a checkered skirt. When the Scottish gentleman had explained her with the translating help of bystanders, why he also wore a skirt, she had no objection anyway to pose for a photo with this sturdy, friendly gentleman in unusual national dress! For the other pictures of that day, click on the picture above.

It took a while before I could turn up with my photo impression of the spring meeting of June 6. last.
This was directly linked with the fact, that I wanted to grab this occasion to add a unique and interactive photo album to our website. A photo album or gallery in which every 124 Spider enthusiast would be able to upload and show - withour our intervention - some of his or her most precious 124 Spider photos that would be visible on our website for all visitors worldwide. You find this unique, free accessible gallery on our site now!

It may be obvious that we will be critical about the posted material in this gallery. Although we will give everyone a chance to upload ON THEIR OWN a few of his or hers nicest Spider photos to our website, we will sharply see to it that these pictures will meet our personal criteria to guarantee the level that we have in mind. All that does not comply with our standards will be removed from the site without mercy, notice and without any discussion.

Harsh? Sure, but we intend to maintain the high level of our site and will critically see to it, that this could be changed or disturbed by the (otherwise) respected and welcome contributions by third parties.

The photos that you intend to upload, should preferably be in the JPEG or JPG file format. The available space for each registered user is 1600 Kb. In case these individual photos are - for instance - smaller than 100 Kb, you will be able to upload about 15 photos that additionally can be placed in your own album. Are those files larger and between 150 and 200 Kb each ( normally this is the case with digital photos ), then you are able to upload 8 to 10 of your nicest Spider photos. The choice and the size of these photos is completely up to you but may not and cannot exceed the mentioned total file limit of 1600 Kb. Crossing this limit is technically blocked, so any attempt in this direction makes no sense. A discussion or question about the enlargement of this quota will definitively not be granted.
Thus, be critical in your photo choice yourself and think in advance about a nice, friendly or suitable text that will accompany each picture. See to it that also your contribution will be an enrichment and a jewel to our website.

We wish you success with our new Spidersweb Photo Gallery ! Click here or on the above image to enter the Gallery.

When you want to upload yourself your favourite Spider pictures to our Photo Gallery, you will have to register for this Gallery.  Also those, who registered earlier at our FORUM will have to register again at this PHOTO GALLERY. This is set up to prevent, that all kinds of rubbish is dumped by unpleasant ( always anonymous ) visitors. Registering is done fast and silent with just a few mouse clicks and is of course completely free. So, just go ahead!

We are glad to inform you, that we installed and opened on our website:

THE INTERACTIVE DUTCH FIAT 124 SPORT SPIDER FORUM OF SPIDERSWEB.NL

    Spidersweb Forum

To offer the large Fiat 124 Spider-community in the Netherlands ( and of course every single 124 Spider enthusiast abroad ) the contemporary interactive possibilities of the internet, we added these dynamic communication possibilities to our website by means of an own Spidersweb-forum or board.

Worldwide more than 20.000 voluntary, individual developers are working on this system to improve and to expand it, more specifically on a large number of new so-called open-source tools, with which we will enrich and improve our website further.

We hope to meet you personally on our Fiat 124 Spider-forum !
